About Our Department The Department of Exercise and Sports Sciences for the Disabled started its education life within the Istanbul Gelişim University School of Physical Education and Sports in the 2019-2020 academic year.


About Our Department
The Department of Exercise and Sports Sciences for the Disabled started its education life within the
Istanbul Gelişim University School of Physical Education and Sports in the 2019-2020 academic year.
The curriculum of our department has been prepared specifically for the field in line with
international standards. In our department, which aims to appeal to all disabled individuals in our
country and around the world, training in various branches of sports for the disabled is given
theoretically and practically by our expert academic staff in the light of scientific data. The Exercise
and Sports Sciences program for the disabled is a 4-year program consisting of 240 ECTS credits. The
program covers the ECTS credit conditions and level qualifications determined for Level 1 and Turkey
 
Higher Education Qualifications and Level 6 qualifications are defined in the Upper Framework of
European Qualifications in Higher Education of the Bologna Process.
 
Advantages Provided by Our University and Opportunities of the Department
Our student candidates who choose our university will receive a Full Scholarship, 50% scholarship, 25%
scholarship, Success Scholarship, Sibling Scholarship, or Board of Trustees Scholarship, depending on
their success level, if they are successful in the written exam held by ÖSYM and the subsequent
talent test.
They will have the opportunity to benefit from many scholarships such as Corporate Scholarships,
R&D Incentive Scholarship, Come to Development Scholarship, and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Support Scholarship.
Advisory faculty members are appointed to all classes in our department. All the problems that our
students may encounter during the course education process are quickly resolved by our advisors,
through the assigned advisor instructors.
To increase the self-improvement opportunities of our students, the Department of Exercise
and Sports Sciences for the Disabled organizes conferences, interviews, and various events during the
academic period, where athletes and educators who are active in the field of sports for the disabled
are guests.
In addition, our students can choose the double major program and receive a diploma in a second
branch for FREE. You can find detailed information about the double major program on our school's
website.
 
Department Courses (Theoretical and Applied)
In our department, our students are provided with the training of theoretical courses specific to the
field such as Introduction to Exercise and Sports Sciences for the Disabled, History of Sports for the
Disabled, Medical Terminology and Disabled Individuals, Educational Games for the Disabled,
Exercise and Sports for Individuals with Autism, Exercise and Sports for Individuals with Down
Syndrome, and similar subjects, throughout their 4-year education, by competent faculty members.

Students of our department are provided with training in Amputee Football, Wheelchair Table
Tennis, Para Athletics, and many other branches, accompanied by our expert academic staff. Our
applied courses are held in gyms and conditions suitable for your branch.
 
Career and Employment Opportunities After Graduation
Students who graduate from the Department of Exercise and Sports Sciences for Disabled People can
serve as healthy lifestyle experts for individuals with different disability diagnoses. They obtain a 2nd
level coaching certificate from the federation to which the sports branch they choose as an elective
specialization is affiliated and they can work as a coach in the specialization branch. They can work as
physical education and sports specialists in rehabilitation centers and other institutions that provide
education to disabled individuals. Students who receive a pedagogical formation certificate can work
 
as physical education and sports teachers in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National
Education. They can pursue master's and doctoral studies in sports science-related fields and can
work as academic staff at universities, provided that they meet the necessary conditions.
