Reasons for Being Hearing-Speech Impaired
There are different reasons for being hearing impaired. 95% of this disability occurs before birth and
5% occurs during the child's language learning stage. The reasons for hearing impairment are divided
into three.
These; are determined as prenatal factors, birth factors, and postnatal factors.
Language and Speech Problems Due to Hearing Loss
Hearing problems in children can cause delays and disabilities in language and speech development.
Therefore, early diagnosis of children with hearing loss and then directing the child and the family to
appropriate training are the most important issues. Otherwise, difficulties occur in children's
language and speech development, and these difficulties range from learning problems to self-
development; It causes many problems, from academic failure to communication problems.
Language and speech problems that individuals with hearing loss may encounter have different
results depending on the time when the hearing loss occurs, its type, the time of diagnosis, its
degree, the use of hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, the level and type of education received,
and many other factors. As a result, in case of hearing deficiency or deficiency, it may cause delays
and problems in language and speech development.
