Our university is committed to keeping alive the deep-rooted memory of the Turkish liberation struggle, building bridges from independence to the future, transmitting our history from generation to generation, and contributing to society through the power of sport. In this regard, we support our students and graduates to achieve success in business life through projects carried out in cooperation with the public and private sectors. On the occasion of the second centenary of our republic, we have organized a ceremony to collaborate with institutions in the sector with our stakeholder understanding, which emphasizes the universal values of sport, carries the Olympic spirit, and adopts the principle of benefiting society. This event emphasizes our university's determination to implement joint projects by cooperating with institutions in the sector.
Istanbul Gelişim University has organized a special event on the 100th anniversary of the Republic that brings together the names that add value to Turkish sports. More than 100 stakeholders from Istanbul Gelişim University's Faculty of Physical Education and Sports attended the event, along with representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, local governments, associations, sports clubs, the private sector, athletes and the press. The organization, which employs a total of 100 people with the participation of academic staff and student volunteers, aims to train a qualified workforce for the sector, increase the power of sports science in the sector, and achieve this through stakeholder agreements.
The event was organized by the deputy director of the Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Istanbul Gelişim University. See. Tekmil started with the introduction of Sezen Göksu. IGU Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin and IGU BESYO Director Assoc. Dr. It continued with the opening speeches of Mehmet Soyal. National wrestler Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu and national volleyball player Neslihan Demir participated in the panel entitled "Champion Women of the Republic". Atakaş Hatayspor coach Volkan Demirel and NutSpor announcer Nebil Evren participated in the panel entitled "Those who make a difference in sport". At this event, the "Volleyball Honour Award" was given to Neslihan Demir, the "Female Athlete of the Year Award" to Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu and the "Sportsman of the Year Award" to Volkan Demirel.
At the end of the panels, awards were presented to those who have added value to Turkish sport. The awards were presented by the President of the Turkish University Sports Federation, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay, the President of the Turkish Athletics Federation, Fatih Çintimar, the President of the Turkish Federation of Sports for Special Athletes, Birol Aydın, the former national athlete Merve Aydın, the Director of Youth and Sports Services of Başakşehir Municipality, Selim Çelebi, the Director General of the Turkish Jockey Club, Gülnur Gülerce, the Secretary General of the Turkish National Paralympic Committee, İbrahim Gümüşdal and the Olympic medallist, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay. It was presented to Mr Malik Beyleroğlu as the "Those Who Add Value to Turkish Sports" award.
An important moment for the organization was the joint reaction to the attack on FIFA-licensed referee Halil Umut Meler after the match between MKE Ankaragücü and Çaykur Rizespor in the 15th round of the Turkish Super League. Participants emphasized the need to preserve and pass on to all generations the unifying spirit and beauty of sport, friendship, and brotherhood.
